Rediscovering the Wonders of the Toyota Prius Hybrid Car

Motor Trends Car of the Year for 2004, North American Car of the Year in 2004, 2004 International Engine of the Year, 2005 European Car of the Year, 2006 Energuide Award in the Midsize segment, this and more are the accolades given to the Toyota Prius Hybrid Car. Undoubtedly one of the most popular and most regarded competitor in the ever growing hybrid car segment, the Toyota Prius has definitely made a marked in the motor industry. The Toyota Prius is a Hybrid car that makes a bold statement against environmental issues and the rising gas prices. It is also the first ever mass-produced hybrid car for commercial purposes. Its name itself means first. The Toyota Prius hybrid car was first sold in Japan in 1997 before it was distributed all over the globe 4 years later in 2001. Its popularity was boosted by environmentalists touting it as the car for the future to save our planet from air pollution. Sales in North America ws strong and increasing annually. By fall of 2006, the Toyota Prius hybrid car had the strongest demand and has the longest preorder and waiting list there is presently.Toyota sees the Prius as a venue that would provide the consumers with a vehicle that would produce less pollution and to be very energy efficient. And Toyota certainly reached that goal. They created the Prius from the bottom up resulting to a true hybrid vehicle that is loved worldwide.Toyota engineers came up with a couple of ways to develop the Toyota Prius hybrid car to be unlike other previous concept electric cars, the Prius doesn’t ever need to be plugged in for recharging. The two electric motor generators get its power from the gas engine, recharging while the engine power is being used. Also, through regenerative braking, a process that recovers kinetic energy when the car brakes and transforming it to electrical energy to recharge the batteries.
By 2004 a second generation of Toyota Prius hybrid car was released on the market. Capitalizing on the development of the new Hybrid Synbergy Drive technology, the previous Toyota Hybrid System was replaced in the new generation Toyota Hybrids. Many improvements were developed and infused in the technology making the Toyota Prius hybrid car even better than before. Aside from the engine, Toyota added more room to the Toyota Prius hybrid car making it wider and taller allowing for taller people to sit erect inside the car and allowing more views of the road.
Because of the success brought by the Toyota Prius hybrid car and the public awareness it has developed, Toyota has extended its Hybrid lineup to their other vehicles. This includes the Toyota Camry hybrid and their top of the line Lexus marquee with the Lexus RX400H.
Truly, the Toyota Prius hybrid car has gone a long way. Its engineering superiority and its excellent reputation has made it a great choice for many people. Even a lot of notable famous people have bought themselves a Toyota Prius hybrid car to show their support to environmental awareness.
Toyota has definitely hit the nail in the head with the Toyota Prius hybrid car and we can expect to see more of this technology in the future. With Toyota’s dedication to this endeavor, we can be sure that we can finally cut down on gas consumption and save our planet.

2008 Bentley Continental GT

Base Price: $175,990 – $199,990

Vehicle OverviewThe Continental GT adds a GT Speed variant for 2008 that cranks out a blistering 600 horsepower, compared to the regular GT's 552 hp. Both cars boast styling changes from last year's GT. In the $200,000 exotic-car range, Bentley's coupes represent a more civilized — if not quite as sporty — alternative to the rip-snorters from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin.According to Bentley, the Continental GT was "conceived to be a sporting coupe without rival." Striking in design, it's a full four-seater with all-wheel drive. Bentley says the GT can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, and the GT Speed does it in 4.3 seconds. Both cars top out around 200 mph.Options include a two-tone hide-trimmed steering wheel, cross-stitching on the seats and door panels, and Vavona and Olive Ash wood veneers. Voice activation for the in-car phone works in six languages. Carpets and seat belts can be matched to the main or secondary interior hue. The Continental Flying Spur sedan and Continental GTC convertible share many components with the GT; both are listed separately in the Cars.com Research section.

ExteriorExterior changes include a new grille that's more vertical and squared-off. There are also restyled quad headlights and a new bumper with a wider air intake. The GT Speed has a darker grille and larger tailpipes. The Continental GT's appearance is far removed from the subtly sporty designs of Bentley's past models, which were comparatively sedate. Designers sought to blend traditional Bentley hallmarks and hand craftsmanship with a contemporary profile and advanced technology. Featuring pillarless styling, the Continental GT has a minimal front overhang and pronounced rear fenders. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard, while the GT Speed wears 20-inchers.A flush-mounted rear spoiler rises automatically at high speeds. Air springs contain electronic dampers, which have been tuned for improved ride comfort on the Continental GT. The steering system has also been recalibrated for better feedback. The GT Speed has even more precise steering, as well as racier suspension tuning and a slightly lower ride height.

Interior

Four people can enjoy the Continental GT coupe. According to Bentley, 6-foot-tall occupants fit easily in the front and rear seats. Interior designers worked with basketball players to ensure that people of all sizes and shapes could be accommodated. Leather upholstery comes in a choice of colors. Various types of wood interior trim can be specified.A symmetrical dashboard mates with a center console that rises and curves to the sides in a shape resembling the design of the Bentley wing insignia. Most routine controls can be operated from the steering wheel. For 2008, the driver information display offers new Thin Film Technology for a clearer readout. Satellite radio is standard, and there's a new dashboard clock. The Bluetooth telematics system has been enhanced with expanded cell-phone compatibility and voice dialing features. Options include a three-spoke steering wheel and backup camera.A Mulliner Driving Specification edition of the Continental GT adds drilled alloy pedals, quilted leather and a chrome and leather gearshift. The Mulliner package is standard on the GT Speed.

Under the Hood

Operating with twin turbochargers, the four-overhead-cam 6.0-liter W-12 generates 552 hp at 6,100 rpm and 479 pounds-feet of torque at just 1,600 rpm in the Continental GT. The GT Speed has an upgraded version of the same engine; it makes 600 hp at 6,000 rpm and 553 pounds-feet of torque at 1,750 rpm. The six-speed ZF automatic transmission has a manual-shift provision. All-wheel drive is standard.

Safety

Ventilated disc brakes have Bosch antilock technology with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution. High-performance carbon ceramic brakes are optional. The standard electronic stability system adds a Sport Traction mode that allows more wheelspin at lower speeds. Side-impact and side curtain airbags are standard.

Compact carMitsubishi Lancer

Expected release: Early 2007

The new Lancer's engine will be a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder unit producing up to 152 horsepower. The standard transmission will be a 5-speed manual. A continuously-variable automatic transmission, Mitsubishi's first, will be optional. Cars equipped with the CVT will also have a six-step manual shift mode.

The Lancer's new "shark nosed" look was inspired by jet fighters.

The body is 50 percent more rigid which allows for a sportier suspension tuning while, at the same time, providing for a smoother ride. The engine is also placed farther back in the car to improve balance and handling.

Small luxury SUVsLand Rover LR2

Expected release: Spring, 2007 Land Rover has a deep history building bush-beating safari machines. These days Land Rover is known to most Americans as a suburban black-top crawler, but the ability to tramp off into the deep, dark forest is still key to the brand.

That's why the new LR2 will have Terrain Response technology. It allows you to use a single knob to set the SUV for a variety of different conditions. It will also have Gradient Release Control to help drivers manage a steep grade in the unlikely event they encounter one.The LR2 will be powered by a 230-horsepower, 3.2-liter in-line 6-cylinder engine. It will have a six-speed automatic transmission.Land Rover's one weak point - but it's a big one - is reliability. Parent company Ford's Lincoln and Mercury brands finished near the top of the most recent J.D. Power vehicle dependability rankings. (Mercury was second only to Lexus.) But Land Rover finished last by a canyon-sized margin

"People who have them love them," said Jack Nerad of Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com, "but you've got to put up with stuff"

Full-sized truck

Expected release: Within weeks Toyota's been successful in small trucks for a long time. But big trucks are a different thing altogether. This New entries into this market, especially ones with Japanese names tacked onto their tailgates, face a tough audience. But Toyota comes to market with a truck that, by the numbers, is just as big and tough as anyone's along with a reputation for reliabilityis traditional American territory.

For its part, Toyota boasts engines that include a 260-horsepower V6 and a 271-horsepower V8. The truck's biggest powerplant is a 381-horsepower 5.7-liter aluminum block V8 that comes with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Large luxury crossover

Expected release: Early summer The Enclave will be the third GM vehicle based on the company's new three-row crossover SUV platform. To GM's credit, though, these three don't look like rebadged versions of the same vehicle.
The Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia are available now. Both are strong performers. The Enclave promises more luxury, nicer amenities and an even quieter ride. Outside, it features sweeping, muscular lines with Buick's trademark fender vents. Inside, the feeling is casual but classy.
It will be powered by a 275-horsepower V6 engine connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.
"I'd suggest that it's a less expensive Audi Q7," said Edmunds.com's Karl Brauer.

Mid-sized sedan

Expected release: Fall 2007 The new Chevrolet Malibu, introduced in January at the Detroit Auto Show, has nothing to do with any Chevrolet Malibu you may have rented in the past. If you're looking at a mid-sized car and you don't have to move now, you'd do well to hang on and check out the Malibu when it becomes available.
This car is bigger, much nicer looking inside and out, and it will drive much better, too. (We know this because we've driven the Saturn Aura, which shares its engineering.)
Outside, the new Malibu looks substantial and attractive. The interior features a sweeping twin-cockpit design inspired by 1950s Corvettes.
General Motors has finally realized that, while people will happily buy boring sedans from Toyota, they will not buy them from GM. So GM has worked hard to improve the quality as well as the emotional appeal of its cars and trucks. The improved designs give you a reason to look and improved quality gives you no reason to turn away.
Available engines will be a 3.6-liter V-6 and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. Optional features will include a panoramic sunroof that stretches over both front and back seats

Corvette ZR1 Sports Car

The new 2009 Corvette ZR1 is a fast and powerful sports car. It has a 6.2-liter surpercharged engine with 638hp. The acceleration of 0-60mph time of just 3.4 seconds will make it reach reach 100mph from standstill in 7 seconds flat. The final MSRP of the new Corvette is $103,300 including the destination charge, but it will have a $1700 gas guzzler tax added on top of this. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 is super sports car indeed.

Audi GT3 Sports Car Race Car

The new The Audi GT3 R8 sports car is a race car that will enter into some of the great races of the world sometime next year. Power for the Audi GT3 has been boosted to 500hp and the engineers digged deep into the technics to conform with GT3 standards. The four-wheel-drive system had to be replaced with a more conventional GT rear-wheel drive system and it is also equipped with a newly developed six-speed sports sequential gear box.The Audi GT3 is a super sports car indeed.
